The fascination of a traditional craft in exhibition,
presentation and interactive media

The Geiserschmiede is an old blacksmith’s building in Buehlertal nearby the world-wide known Baden-Baden. Before 1591 an mill is mentioned at this place. Over 300 years the mill is at work. 1891 the grain-mill is rebuilt to the blacksmiths shop.

Till 1961 the blacksmith’s family Geiser has produced all tools for regional agriculture and forestry. After that the smithy has been in a state of hibernation for 30 years. Traces of the decay has been exposed.

To keep this old building a little group of inhabitants from Buehlertal has restored during 7.500 hours the building an his technical equipment. The energy which is need to set the big hammers into motion, is coming from the little river Buehlot nearby the Geiserschmiede. A water wheel from 4,40 meters in diameter delivers the power.

The exhibition presents the whole history of the Geiserschmiede building, the blacksmiths family Geiser and the job profile of an blacksmith’s master.

An interactive media terminal shows you the technical connections.

Bühlertal itself boasts some beautiful countryside with numerous wine cellars, particularly the wild, romantic Gertelbach gorge and the Gertelbach waterfalls.
